Running back extraordinaire and surefire future NFL Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis had spent his 13-year-long career in pursuit of one elusive thing: a ring a Super Bowl ring. And on February 5 2006 he finally got it as the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 21-10 in Super Bowl XL. During the post-game festivities with his mission accomplished and as his family teammates fans and millions of television viewers worldwide looked on Bettis announced that he was officially retired. But it all started at Notre Dame where Bettis during his college years was a standout for the Fighting Irish.
